Mission: Citizen’s new online learning system will be set up as similarly to in-person classes as possible. Students will watch pre-recorded videos of teachers going over each lesson, in English or Spanish, and will then complete the worksheet for the lesson. These worksheets will be formatted more like quizzes, as students will be shown when they answered incorrectly, and given a description of exactly why the answer they gave was incorrect. Students will also be encouraged to get all of the questions right before moving on to the next lesson, but it will not be required.
All of this online work can be done on any computer, smartphone or tablet at students’ own pace. However, we will be offering two different options for students to keep in touch with our teachers, both so that we are able to assist them, and so that they may qualify for a scholarship.
The first option will be for students to do all of their classwork through the online learning platform, and be paired with a teacher. They will be responsible for checking in with their assigned teacher on a weekly basis, in order to update them on their progress, and receive any help they may need. These check-ins can be done through whatever platform is best for the student, and students will need to complete all 8 online lessons in order to receive a scholarship. We will have teachers who speak a variety of different languages, in order to accommodate as many students as possible.
